The Brook’s king snake is another large North American king snake species. It was once considered a subspecies of the Florida king snake but has since been described as its own unique species. They reach similar proportions as the Florida king snake with lengths reaching 4 to 6 feet long. They are a stocky bodied animal that is hardy and eats readily. Compared to the Florida king snake, their coloration is lighter with scattered dark brown or black scales along their back and sides. There is also a tendency to have brighter red coloration than the Florida king snake. They are aggressive but tend to calm down when handled regularly. Due to their size and initial aggression this snake is not recommended for small children. This species is native to southern Florida and lives in many different habitats, often close to water. At Reptiles by Mack we regularly produce the normal, albino and high red morphs.
