This semi aquatic amphibian does best with a shallow area of tap water that has been treated to neutralize the chlorine in its environment. They are voracious eaters that can be housed together, however, they should not be housed with other species of amphibians. As a defense mechanism, fire belly toads can excrete a mild toxin from their skin. This is not typically dangerous to humans, however, handling should be sparse and hands should be washed thoroughly after contact.
